In Times of Crisis, the Â鶹¹ú²úAV Community Steps Up
Donors commit more than $30 million in FY 2019-20.
In times of crisis, our strengths come into sharp focus.
To help Â鶹¹ú²úAV provide a transformative liberal arts education, more than 5,000 alumni, parents, and friends came together to commit over $30 million in fiscal year 2019-20, a level of support that hasn’t been seen since 2012, which marked the end of the Centennial Campaign. These figures include $4.6 million in gifts to the Annual Fund, which is one of the critical elements that has allowed Â鶹¹ú²úAV to respond forcefully to COVID-19.
With your help, we found ways to remain steadfast in our dedication to our highest ideals while adapting to meet goals and care for one another along the way. Some examples:
DIGITAL LEARNING
- Â鶹¹ú²úAV’s Computing & Information Services staff helped faculty reimagine the format of their courses and move approximately 400 classes online, providing guidance on accessibility, live class sessions, and recording, editing, and sharing lectures.
- The Center for Teaching and Learning orchestrated peer-to-peer sharing of best practices for online instruction.
LIFE BEYOND REED
- The Center for Life Beyond Â鶹¹ú²úAV reached more than 200 students through online appointments and virtual drop-in sessions and connected the entire class of 2020 to the Â鶹¹ú²úAV alumni network.
- 41 summer internship awards were reconfigured to support remote experiences.
STUDENT LIFE
- Health and counseling services introduced telehealth appointments to respond to increased need related to COVID-19.
- 96 staff volunteers contacted 1,064 students through the Student Outreach Initiative.
- 55 students were connected with the Â鶹¹ú²úAV Care Team for specialized support, and 86 students were connected with other campus resources.
- There were 254 events during the fall semester, including a summer research poster session, Â鶹¹ú²úAV Arts Week, and a plethora of lectures, workshops, and performances.
ACADEMICS
- Faculty investigated the content of palladium in road dirt, studied the neurological basis of alcohol euphoria, conducted in-depth research on the history of American mosques, and much more.
- 314 seniors graduated

FINANCIAL AID
- 55% of students received financial aid in 2019–20.
- The average grant was $36,927.
- In total, Â鶹¹ú²úAV administered more than $29 million in scholarships.
